Which is why she wants you to really listen to her answer.
“You can’t spot-reduce fat,” Jillian told POPSUGAR. “You have to engage in habits that are metabolic overall to reduce body fat anywhere on the body.” That means doing endless crunches or two-minute planks won’t get you the results you’re looking for.
Jillian said “you must count calories” in order to see a difference around your midsection. “Fat is stored energy, and calories are units of energy. Eat too many calories, and you store them as fat,” she explained. “To lose fat, you must burn stored calories. Therefore, eating [healthy] and training for calorie burn are the keys to losing belly fat.”
What does it mean to train “for calorie burn”? Jillian said HIIT intervals, weightlifting, and circuit training are your best bets. This allows you to get the most bang for your buck, so you’ll burn more calories in the long run. This kind of training is much more effective than doing isolated ab exercises or simply doing endless cardio.
