You already know how to buy an absurd amount of avocados and store them in the fridge until you’re ready to eat them. And you know how to tell when an avocado is perfectly ripe — is there anything better than slicing into an avocado when it has a flawless color and amazingly creamy texture?

Although avocados are high in the good-for-you monounsaturated fats, they’re also high in calories. And while you can eat a whole avocado a day, most people prefer to eat just half an avocado on avo toast or in a salad. So how can you save the rest of your pristine avocado for later without it turning brown?

All you need are two things: a piece of aluminum foil and some oil. Apply a light layer of oil to the light green flesh, cover your avocado with the foil, and store it in the fridge. Spray oil will make this easier, but you can also brush the oil on or use your fingertips. The oil will act as a barrier to prevent oxygen from reaching the flesh of an avocado, which is the reason it turns brown.

Your half an avocado will stay perfectly green for a couple of days. Amazing, right? Don’t mourn for all the avocado halves that went to the dark (brown) side. Honor their legacy by vowing to use this oil storage hack so you’ll never waste another avocado again.
